When the music slides under the skin like a vital nymph, it is unavoidable to face the console with ardor and magnetism. And that’s how Gianni Alagna aka DJ John Curtis lives his greatest passion for the past ten years, as a continuous talent and music evolution. His activity includes Djing and producing, also since January 2007 he has kicked off as owner of his QT Records, a label that embraces productions of various international top labels and cooperation with DJ’s and producers of global reputation. To trace a map of the places where John Curtis has played, exalting and literally buzzing the crowd, means to wear a comfortable pair of trainers and be taken for a marathon around the world, making pit-stops in cities , symbol of innovation and new inspiration, like New York, Berlin, Miami, London and many more earthly locations. John was born from Italian parents in a multiethnic neighborhood of a small city in the north side of Switzerland. He grows up breathing and dipping into the bubbling House scene, while increasingly appreciate the infectious mix between electronic sounds with funk and soul. His fondness drives John to an inner search for the real sound, so in 1997 he withdraws from the scene: the desire to explore new shapes and audacious path in the music genre is in clear contrast with the upcoming and excessive commercialization of the House and those underground sub-cultures that were fundamental to his musical and personal roots. Soon after, he makes record history after his first release. John starts to receive numerous demands, he has a market now where he makes a trademark with his creations that shows a preference for bewildered melodies, unchecked rhythms and unconventional vibes, rather characterized from an elegant essence and an original style. John Curtis singularity is in the love to penetrate frontiers between the genres and the languages, that looks at the unexpected and search for the comparison: just for that he carries on to attend hidden clubs and venues, those where irregular games and sensuality always pulse amongst bodies and sounds, those where the rhythms still scratch and penetrate the skin. The appeal for the clubs, with their atmosphere full of energy, is therefore a sign of visceral attention to the musical dimension that is part of John. His Dj set intentionally becomes a way to transmit sound and rhythm, an harmony that connects, speeds, slows, cuts…it blends inspiration and creativity. What inspires John Curtis methods and techniques in how he plays and he produces, the underground’s feeling like part of himself, as a source that innerve the artistic and expressive choices, not something of acquired, but a constituent respect to the character and the quality of his groove.
